What are the 7 differnt types of Plastic?

PET or Polyethylene Terephthalate

The first type of plastic is Polyethylene Terephthalate or PET. This type of plastic is used mostly for food and drink packaging and can be picked up by recycling centers. However this type of plastic can be carcinogenic or cancer causing when exposed to high amounts of  heat. There are 7 types of PET’s, each type is labeled by a number 1- 7, which you can find on the piece of plastic.  Number 1,2, and 5 are easily recyclable while 3,4,6, and 7 are not.

Next we have High density Polyethylene or HDPE. This type of plastic is very dense and stronger and thicker than PET. It is used for a variety of things including opaque milk cartons, juice containers, and shampoo and medicine bottles. It is recyclable and safer than PET.

Moving on we have Polyvinyl Chloride or PVC . This is the second most used plastic resin in the world and is used in a variety of items including toys, blister wrap, cling wrap, detergent bottles, binders, and medical tubing . Ironically this type of plastic is also considered the most hazardous plastic leaching toxins such as Bisphenol A or BPA, lead, dioxins and mercury.

After that we have Low density Polyethylene  or LDPE. This plastic is less dense and more flexible than other types of plastic. It is mostly used in bags, like grocery bags, dry cleaning, bread bags, frozen food bags, garbage bags. But it can also be found in newspapers plastic wrap, coating for hot/ cold beverage cups and wire and cable covering. This type of plastic is also very hard to recycle.

Next we have Polypropylene or  PP is much stiffer  and much more resistant to heat, its strength lies in between LDPE and HDPE. It’s mostly used for hot food containers, thermal vests, car parts and sanitary items. Although it is safe to store  food in  as long as it is labeled BPA free, it is not entirely recyclable.   achieve your goals.
